Oh, You Better Watch Out!

As children, we all have played “Hide and Seek.”  The person who was “it” would cover their eyes and count to a predetermined number, let’s say 50, and the other players would hide.  When the person who was “it” got to 50 he would yell, “Ready or not, here I come.”  It was the responsibility of the other players to be in their hiding places and ready when the count of 50 was reached and the warning was yelled.

Well, it is not going to work that way with the second coming of Christ.  There is a predetermined amount of time before His return, but we do not know when that will occur.  Only God the father knows when it will occur.  "Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake...” (Rev. 16:15)

If we do not know when it will occur, what do we know?  Well, we do know that there are signs to indicate that it will occur, many of them are found in Mark 13.  The Bible tells us the signs so that we will know that the end is near.  It teaches us that it is like a mother giving birth, when labor pains begin, you know that the delivery is eminent.  Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.(Rev. 1:3)

What do we do while we wait?  “You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.”  (James 5:8 )  The question you need to ask is, are you “ready or not?”

This is a video clip of a bell ringer in a church.  This song is about the shepherds who were watching for the Messiah to come the first time.

Shepherds Watch Their Flocks by Night:

Rev. 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because  the time is near .

A prison cell, in which one waits, hopes... and is completely dependent on the fact that the door of freedom has to be opened from the outside, is not a bad picture of Advent.

Ready or Not

Mark 13:5-8 Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.”

Jesus Tells Us That He is Coming Again:

Are you watching?  Are you ready?
