Why Should You Spend Daily Time With God?

Some may think that the concept of having a daily quite time with God is a practice that comes out of watching Christ’s example in the New Testament.  However, we find Isaiah telling the Israelites that they are heading in the wrong direction when they go to the surrounding nations for solutions to their various problems.  Instead he encourages them to seek quiet and rest with God.  Unfortunately, they do not follow his guidance.

“This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.” (Isaiah 30:15)

It is said, smart people learn from their own mistakes, wise people learn from other people’s mistakes.  If we were wise, we would learn from the mistakes of the Israelites.  However, we find ourselves doing the same thing they were doing.  When we are sick, our first contact is the doctor.  When we are struggling with relationships, our first contact is the counselor.  Need money, talk to the bankers.

People with these skills may be part of God’s plan to solve your problems, but He wants you to go to Him first.  Seek Him first!  He will direct your paths!

“Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” (Isaiah 30:18)

Jewish Tefillin:

This is a video clip of a Rabbi teaching about the proper way to put on Tifillin.

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private.

Matthew 6:6

We must pray not first of all because it feels good or helps, but because God loves us and wants our attention.
